FASS Network towards QEP CCC

FASS Network is happy to share with you our first release of images of the future of our Fibre Room at Queen Elizabeth Park Community , Cultural and Recreational Centre.

The transformation of Queen Elizabeth Park Community Centre (QEPCC) into a unique multi-purpose recreation, arts and culture facility continues in 2010 with the finalization of the detailed designs, the development of the centre's operating model and the start of interior construction.

Project milestones
  • In September 2010, AquiCon Construction was awarded the contract for construction of QEPCC and are on site. The town expects to receive possession of the building in the fall of 2011 and the building is scheduled to open January 2012.
  • Final interior and exterior design plans were presented to more than 100 visitors at a public open house on February 4, 2010. Residents from the local community, seniors, and the arts and culture community had the chance to review the designs, ask questions and share opinions with town staff. Overall, visitors were very excited by the design and the progression of Queen Elizabeth Park Community Centre. The designs can be downloaded from the presentation and documents chart below.
  • On October 19, 2009, Town Council approved the expanded program for the redevelopment of QEPCC. The revised estimated cost of $22,450,000 for phase two was approved in the 2010 capital budget.
  • As part of the planned renovation, QEPCC, including the pool, closed on September 8, 2009. Many activities have been relocated to other town facilities (Glen Abbey Pool, located at 1415 Third Line, is now the warm pool). Please see the current Parks, Recreation and Culture Brochure for details or go to the Queen Elizabeth Park Pool page for aquatic program relocation. The new community centre is expected to open in winter 2012.
  • Phase one, which involved the demolition of the interior of the building, is now complete and phase two (construction) is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2010.

Dye Room:

QEP will offer not only a vast space to create all different fibre arts and crafts, but also to transform through the dye process. Sinks specially fabricated for the rooms will be the perfect place to experiment on the different colours to expose the fibres, and fabrics to produce creative projects.
